Visit the three sites of the Colosseum’s Archaeological Park: the Colosseum, a world-renowned monument used for gladiatorial fights and hunts, with a capacity of over 50,000; the Palatine Hill, the origin of Rome and now a vast open-air museum; and the Roman Forum, the historic center of Roman public and economic life.
After lunch, the guide will meet you at the restaurant to continue the tour at the Vatican Museums, featuring an extensive art collection built by the Popes. The itinerary includes the Pio Clementino Hall, Laocoon and Apollo Belvedere, Maps Gallery, Candelabra Gallery, Tapestries Gallery, and the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo’s frescoes.
The tour then proceeds to St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest church in the world, showcasing masterpieces like Michelangelo’s La Pietà and Bernini’s Baldacchino. The tour ends in St. Peter’s Square, dominated by Michelangelo’s Cupola and Bernini’s Colonnade.

- This tour involves a fair amount of walking, comfortable shoes are recommended.
- Some sites visited lack shade and can be hot under direct sunlight. We recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen and a bottle of water in warm weather.
- Some of the venues or parts of the venue may be subject to last-minute, unpredictable closures. When this occurs, the guide will offer an extended tour in keeping with the advertised total length of the tour.
- Please note that large bags/backpacks/suitcases are not permitted in the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Only very small bags are allowed. Please do not bring these items with you on the day of your tour as there are no coatrooms at the Colosseum. Also, large bags/tripods/umbrellas/backpacks are not permitted in the Vatican and must be checked into the free luggage storage area. Please do not bring these items as you may need to leave the tour early to retrieve them at the entrance. Only very small bags are allowed.
- Entrance into the Vatican requires a strict dress code. Knees and shoulders MUST be covered for both men and women. ItalyVacations cannot be held responsible for refused entry due to improper dress.
- Non-flash photography is permitted throughout the tour, except in the Sistine Chapel where talking and photography are prohibited.
