On this full day tour you will visit the gem of Lake Orta and the small town of Orta San Giulio. With your expert guide, you’ll walk through the old small town, learning about its long dated history.
Then a boat will take you to the only island in the middle of this small lake, surrounded by the mountains: the legend says Saint Jules killed a dragon here in the 4th century and his body still rests in the crypt of the church. On the island only cloistered nuns live, that's why it's also called "the island of silence". The Sacro Monte, on the top of the hill above Orta, is included in the list of the World Heritage: the clay statues and the frescoes in the 20 chapels, built from the 16th to the 18th century, tell the story of Saint Francis of Assisi.
